Monkey eating eagle is one of the 300 species of birds in Mindanao. It was first called the Philippine Eagle but because it prey on monkeys it was named the monkey eating eagle. Sometimes they eat lemurs and bats. This kind of eagle is is endangered because their habitat have been destroyed, with the illegal logging and the “kaingin” system used by farmers. To save these birds, the Philippine Eagle Research and Nature Center was established. Thus the first captive bred monkey eating eagle hatched in this center was named “Pag-asa” followed by “Pagkakaisa”. As time goes on, more birds were hatched.
