Light Stuff

Another latest invention by NASA is a substance called “aerogel”. Though it wasn’t the NASA who actually invented it. They just refined it. This aerogel is a record holder at the Guiness Book as the lightest solid in the world. Weighing in at a mere .003 cc, aerogel resembles smoke that has been frozen into place—its cloudy, translucent and virtually weightless. This stuff is used on the space shuttle to trap tiny space borne particles traveling at a high speed so they can be brought back to earth for analysis.
