Second Hand Clothing

The second-hand clothes exist in every corner of the Philippines. It was said to be dirty and health hazardous yet Pinoys seem to love it and find it irresistible. Well, ukay-ukay is a great way to find unique and one-of-a-kind vintage items at a very low price. The downside is that, several measures should be taken into consideration before donning your ukay-ukay clothes, afterall, you do not know where they came from and that they are stored in boxes or sacks for long periods of time. Ukay-ukay are very exposed to parasites, mites, dust and other disease-causing organisms.

Chemicals are also applied such as insecticides and mothballs that are known skin-irritants. Before wearing your ukay-ukay, be sure to shake the dust off it. Soak it in boiling water for 30 minutes to an hour. Rinse it off and give it a second soak this time by mixing water with a cup of vinegar and an antibacterial detergent. Let sit for 30 minutes to an hour, rinse and then hand wash. Ukay-ukay is a wise buy but don’t bargain your health by being careless afterall, health is our ultimate wealth!
